MR2 Background

Toyota's MR2 is a 2 seater sports car. Production began in 1986 and ended in 1993 in Canada. This car is a 2nd generation model (Mark2) powered by a 2.0L Twin Entry 3SGTE Engine with a CT26 Turbo producing 200HP at 3200RPM stock. Weighing in at at over 2800lbs, 0-60 acceleration is approximately 6.0 seconds. MR2 stands for Mid-engine Rear Wheel Drive 2 Seater, or something like that. The engine sits behind the driver. This provides better traction on acceleration and handling comparable to exotic european sports cars (ie. Ferrari).

There are currently three generations for the MR2. 1986-1989 was the Mark 1 - excellent handling. 1991-1995 was the Mark 2 - lots of power, and 2000-2005 belonged to the Mark3 - very cute. For those in Canada, the Mark3 was never made available to Canada. It is also know as the MRS or MRSypder. The Mark 2 was best known for its superior power through its Turbo models. Canadians only received the MR2 until '93. Therefore, the '94 and '95 MR2 were never available in Canada. The '95 in particular was extremely rare, as prices went up and sales went down during the last few years of the mark2.
